What's My Skin Type?
Everyone's skin is different, and each takes their own journey to find products that suit them. However, there are five basic skin types that are common. The five skin types we refer to are dry, combination, normal, oily and sensitive. I will note that your skin type can change throughout your life so it's important to keep an eye on the way your skin behaves. The cause of these skin types can be attributed to a variety of factors. Your skin can be hereditary, but also a result of where you live, what you eat, hormonal changes etc. so if you are having trouble with your skin, seeking out a dermatologist or G.P is recommended.
Those with dry skin are not producing enough sebum. Signs of dry skin include a dull complexion, flaky skin and small pores. Finding a moisturizer that works with your skin is important. The Skinstitute Moisture Defence Ultra Dry contains Contains Progeline™, Olive fruit oil, Green tea extract and Oat extract to add a more intense level of hydration to the skin. Keeping a hydrated base and drinking lots of water will help contain these symptoms.
Those with combination skin are producing oil in different parts of their skin. Points, where oil can produce, include the t-zone, chin and around the nose. Combination skin can be a little more difficult to keep under control. Use the Skinstitute Hydrating Mask to keep your skin from becoming dry and flaky, and to control T-zone from producing more oil.
Normal skin produces the right amount of oil. For those with normal skin, it will usually get a little shiny on the T-zone later in the day and may break out from time to time. Normal skin is the easiest to handle, but finding the right skin care is important to maintaining this skin type. Using the Skinstitute Gentle Cleanser and Moisture Defence - Normal every morning and night will preserve your skin, as well as a healthy diet and lots of water!
Those with oily skin are prone to producing too much oil. They can usually find their skin becomes shiny throughout the day, especially in the T-zone and are more susceptible to breakouts. Contrary to popular belief, drying your skin out by not wearing moisturiser can produce more oil and make more of a problem in the future. We recommend combining the soothing and healing benefits of the Skinstitut Glycolic Scrub 14% and the Skinstitut Moisture Defence – Oily that will decongest and reduce oil flow.
Those with sensitive skin can have a number of symptoms. Usually, the skin will feel tight, dry or burning if products are applied to it. Can be prone to rashes and irritation, redden easily and feels uncomfortable to the person. If you feel these symptoms we recommend seeing a G.P and using products specifically for sensitive skin. The Skinstitute L-Lactic Cleanser is a gentle cleanser that is formulated with L-Lactic acid, Goji Berry, Seaweed, Vitamins B & E, for sensitive or irritated skin.
